Hello! It’s Me Anna Kat!

Hello and welcome to my vintage world! I’m Anna Kat.

Here I am circa 1982. Saddle shoes and all!

Here I am circa 1982. Saddle shoes and all!

I was an interior designer for 20 years before I finally took the plunge into all things vintage. Of course, starting a new business in 2020 turned out to be a bit of a challenge but here we are. I’m going for it!

My goal is to provide a place to build a sense of community for all the vintage lovers in the world. Here I will be sharing my love for vintage fashion, decor, food, cars, art, and architecture, I’ll also be sharing some of the items I have repurposed for myself as well as some wonderful vintage finds I have for sale.

I have a vintage booth at Hylabrook Antique Mall. It’s located in Murfreesboro, TN just 30 minutes east of Nashville. I also sell items on my Instagram page from time to time so make sure you are following along by clicking here.

How did I come to love all things vintage? It started when I was in junior high school and I found a scrapbook my mom kept from her high school days in the early 1960s. I spent hours and hours pouring over every page.

She grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. The space race was on and Huntsville became the site of the U.S Space and Rocket Center. My grandfather (on dad’s side) even worked there!

Aside from NASA being there, Huntsville was really a small town so my mom was able to enjoy walking to school, going to the drive-in, and knowing just about everyone in her community. Her scrapbook included photos from football games, invitations to parties, high school dance tickets, and ribbons from corsages my dad gave her. Yes, they were high school sweethearts.

From the moment I laid eyes on the photos of her dresses, their house, the cars - I was hooked! I started listening to the oldies station with her and singing along to The Supremes and Frank Sinatra. And who doesn’t love Elvis! How gorgeou was he?!

I tried to absorb everything I could about the 1950s and 60s. Then I discovered segregation and the civil rights movement. I would be in tears as I asked my mom how such injustice was allowed to go on. I couldn’t ever imagine treating someone differently from how I would like to be treated. I was appalled by this eye-opening information and suddenly that time period didn’t look so great.

I was young and naive. I remember when I was in seventh grade, I invited the girl who sat next to me in Geography class to a slumber party for my birthday. When she didn’t show up, I called and asked her where she was because I wanted her to be there. She responded that she thought the invitation was a joke. I was stunned. Why would I invite her as a joke? I later realized, she thought I was being mean because she was African American. That’s what she was used to and it’s what she expected. It was 1991 not 1958 but it still happened! Now, in 2020, we are still dealing with ridiculous racial issues that really should not have a place in our world. This is not a political page but I will not tolerate any hate or injustice directed at anyone no matter their color, beliefs, or sexual orientation. If you don’t want to be loving and respectful to all people, this is not the place for you.

But if you love history as much as you love humankind, this will be a wonderful place for you to find a community of people who share your love of all things vintage. I want this to be a happy place for you to come to get away from the everyday stresses and find things that you’re passionate about. I named my company Voyage To Vintage because that’s exactly what it is - a voyage. It’s a trip down memory lane, a chance to explore (and learn from!) a different time, and the opportunity to preserve those parts of history for all the generations to come.

So, welcome! Thank you for joining me here. I know you’re gonna love it!

Xoxo,

Anna Kat
